Course Description: Basic functions of management with emphasis on the behavioral problems management faces in adopting and implementing policy. 3:0:3
Educational Philosophy: The facilitaor's educational philosophy is one of interactiveness based upon lectures, readings, and questioning. The facilitator will engage each learner in applied business concepts and current business practices to include ethics, trends, social and cultural applications. The facilitator encourages lively exploration of ideas, discussions and contradictions.
Learning Outcomes:At the end of this course the student will be able to:
Describe and list the functions of management;
Explain how the emphasis on respective functions of management will change at the various levels;
Describe the managerial activities and function of a supervisor, a mid-level manager, and an executive;
Describe organizational environments that would extremely different styles of management;
Explain how centralization and decentralization affect managerial decision making; Define the terms “span of control” and “scope of authority”, “effectiveness” and “efficiency;” and
Explain the similarities and differences between leadership and management.
Course Assessment: Assessments will include homework assignment, written papers, in-class dicussion participation, and exams.
Grading: Midterm = 100 points
Final Exam = 100 points

Participation and attendance = 100 points
Total point possible = 400 points
A = 360-400 points = 90%
B = 320-359 points = 80%
C = 280-329 points = 70%
F = Below 279 points
All assignments are due by the end of the 8th week.
