Course Description:
Organization and management of community based and public health agencies.  Strategic planning for national, state, and local trends, community needs, and projected changes in society and health care.  Administration of personnel, information systems, accreditation requirements, facilities, finances, external services contracts, community relations, and technology in clinics, home health, schools, industry, and other community based agencies.  3:0:3

Educational Philosophy:
My educational philosophy is to help facilitate adult learners exchange vies, opinions, experiences relating to the health care field.  Lecture, examinations, papers, reading, and class participation will contribute to the learning experience.

Learning Outcomes:

Students will be able to analyze the effects of correct management processess on health care.
Students will identify the various health care agencies.
Students will compare the delivery of health care.
Students will appreciate gthe effects of correct management processes on health care.
Students will evaluate how management at all levels affect health care delivery.

Course Assessment:
Mid-term exam, final exam, research paper, and an oral presentation.

Grading:
Mid-term exam                  30 points
Final exam                     40 points
Research paper & presentation  20 points
Class participation            10 points

Late Submission of Course Materials:
Will not be accepted with prior approval of the instructor

Classroom Rules of Conduct:
Must attend every class.  Must be on time.  Turn off all cell phones.  No talking when I am speaking, or when another student is talking.  Total academic freedom  Do on line survey after completion of the course.

Course Topic/Dates/Assignments:
First week:  Administrative matters. Introductions.  Explanation of the course requirements.  Chap 1.

Second week:  Chapters 3, 4, & 5.

Third week:  Chapters 5, 6, & 7.

Fourth week:  Mid-term exam.  Covers Chapters 1 thorugh 9.

Fifth week:  Chapters 10, 11, & 12.

Sixth week:  Chapters 13, 14, 15, 16, & 17.

Seventh week:  Student Presentations.  Final Exam.  Covers Chapter 10 through 15.

Eighth week:  Make-up Exams.  Make-up student presentations.  Feedback on the course.

Academic Honesty:

Plagiarism:
Plagiarism involves the use of quotations without quotation marks, the use of quotations without indication of the source, the use of another's idea without acknowledging the source, the submission of a paper, laboratory report, project, or class assignment (any portion of such) prepared by another person, or incorrect paraphrasing. Attendance Policy:
Instructors are required to maintain attendance records and to report absences via the online attendance reporting system.

  1. The instructor may excuse absences for valid reasons, but missed work must be made up within the semester/term of enrollment.
  2. Work missed through unexcused absences must also be made up within the semester/term of enrollment, but unexcused absences may carry further penalties.
  3. In the event of two consecutive weeks of unexcused absences in a semester/term of enrollment, the student will be administratively withdrawn, resulting in a grade of "WH".
  4. A "Contract for Incomplete" will not be issued to a student who has unexcused or excessive absences recorded for a course.
  5. Students receiving Military Tuition Assistance or Veterans Administration educational benefits must not exceed three unexcused absences in the semester/term of enrollment. Excessive absences will be reported to the appropriate agency and may result in a monetary penalty to the student.
  6. Report of a "F" grade (attendance or academic) resulting from excessive absence for those students who are receiving financial assistance from agencies not mentioned in item 5 above will be reported to the appropriate agency.
