Course Description:
This course introduces students to the fundamentals of programming and  design using multimedia projects. In a “hands-on” class, students will use  pseudocode design and the three programming constructs (sequence,  selection, and repetition) in creating GUI screen interfaces and web pages.  Students will learn how to combine text, graphics, audio, video, and  animation in their projects. 3:0:3

Educational Philosophy:
• Teaching techniques to be used in this course will consist of a mixture of the following:
• Lectures
• Labs
• Quizzes
• Exams
• Individual Programming Projects

Class Assessment:
• Quizzes will be given at the beginning of class each Monday. They will be closed book. These quizzes will be 15 minutes in length. The primary nature of the quizzes is to enforce your understanding and recall of terminology, conventions, and techniques from your reading assignment.

• Homework assignments are individual programming projects. They will be due each Monday at the beginning of class. Points will be deducted for the following reasons:
o Failure to follow programming conventions and good programming techniques discussed in class and in the book (i.e.)
o Use of comments
o Use of naming conventions
o Readability of the code
o Erroneous output and logic errors
o Failure to follow all the requirements specified (i.e.)
o Improperly formatted output
o Missing functionality

Grading:
• The following grading criteria will be used for all students within this course:

7 Quizzes at 15 points each = 105 Points
6 Homework Assignments at 25 points each = 150 Points
1 Final Exam at 120 points = 120 points
Maximum Points Available 375

B - 337 to 300
C - 299 to 263
D - 262 to 225
F - Below 225

Late Submission of Course Materials:
• All class homework and projects are due on the scheduled date or no points will be awarded for that assignment.
• Programming projects are to be accomplished individually; no group projects will be assigned for this course.

Classroom Rules of Conduct:
• Academic honesty is required of all members of a learning community. Hence, the university will not tolerate cheating or plagiarism on tests, examinations, papers, or other course assignments. Students who engage in such dishonesty may be given a failing grade and/or expelled from the university.

Academic Honesty:
Academic integrity is the foundation of the academic community. Plagiarism:
Plagiarism involves the use of quotations without quotation marks, the use of quotations without indication of the source, the use of another's idea without acknowledging the source, the submission of a paper, laboratory report, project, or class assignment (any portion of such) prepared by another person, or incorrect paraphrasing. Park University 2005-2006 Undergraduate Catalog Page 85-87

Attendance Policy:
Instructors are required to maintain attendance records and to report absences via the online attendance reporting system.

  1. The instructor may excuse absences for valid reasons, but missed work must be made up within the semester/term of enrollment.
  2. Work missed through unexcused absences must also be made up within the semester/term of enrollment, but unexcused absences may carry further penalties.
  3. In the event of two consecutive weeks of unexcused absences in a semester/term of enrollment, the student will be administratively withdrawn, resulting in a grade of "WH".
  4. A "Contract for Incomplete" will not be issued to a student who has unexcused or excessive absences recorded for a course.
  5. Students receiving Military Tuition Assistance or Veterans Administration educational benefits must not exceed three unexcused absences in the semester/term of enrollment. Excessive absences will be reported to the appropriate agency and may result in a monetary penalty to the student.
  6. Report of a "F" grade (attendance or academic) resulting from excessive absence for those students who are receiving financial assistance from agencies not mentioned in item 5 above will be reported to the appropriate agency.
