Learning Outcomes: Core Learning Outcomes
The final exam for FI 360 will be the assessment tool used for this course. The exam will be comprehensive and the grade used to determine competency levels achieved by the students. The exam will be closed book and closed notes. The exam consists of multiple choice questions covering the chapter readings in the course and problems that examine the critical thinking, effective communication skills and technical skills of the student. Partial credit will be given for the problems.
Class Assessment: Each week you will be asked to post an answer to one of the discussion questions at the end of the chapter and respond to a fellow student's response.
The course grade for students will be based on the overall average of homework and tests taken during the course in accordance with the weighting of the various requirements as stated in the syllabus.
All final exams in all School of Business and Management courses will be comprehensive and will be closed book and closed notes. They will constitute 30% of the total course grade and will not be a take-home exam. They will be completed during the test week in the period designated by the registrar or by the Proctor in the case online courses. If calculators are allowed, they will not be multifunctional electronic devices that include features such as: phones, cameras, instant messaging, pagers, and so forth. Electronic Computers will not be allowed on final exams unless an exception is made by the Dean of the School of Business and Management.
Course Expectations and Grading Structure
Is in the classroom, normally the first explanation most students would like is a detailed plan of what is going to happen. Allow me to provide a framework for the next eight weeks.
1. The classroom is open so you can down load the syllabus and the resource list. You might want to print them so you can use them as a planning document. Then proceed to the conference area and check in. Place an introduction of yourself (week 1 - introduction); feel free to share as much personal information as you feel comfortable with.
2. Grading Discussion Assignments: You will have a weekly discussion assignment. Weekly assignments are due by midnight Sunday Eastern Standard Time. These assignments account for 15% of the overall grade. You can earn up to 9.375 points for the discussion assignment. Points earned will be based on the accuracy of your response and that you additionally respond to one of your fellow student’s posting. To receive full credit for the assignment your response to a fellow student’s question will reinforce their work, ask for clarification, or add additional information to the discussion. I view these discussions as class participation points and hence to receive any credit for the online assignment, the assignment must be received by due date. No exceptions.
3. Homework: Weekly homework assignments will include application problems from the text. Weekly assignments are due by midnight Sunday Eastern Standard Time. If you have a question pertaining to any material in the text either email me or post your question within the weekly Q & A area. All I ask is that you provide the page number and topic and I'll do my best to answer your question. If you are having difficulty with a homework assignment give it your best hour (e.g. attempt) and then send it to me along with a brief statement of what you think the problem is. I will provide assistance. Homework can be sent as attachments in Excel, Word or RTF.
4. Grading Homework: Weekly assignments are due by midnight Sunday Eastern Standard Time, unless an extension is granted prior to the due date. You can earn up to 25 points for the homework assignment. Each of the problems carries the same point value. Twenty-five points will be awarded if all problems are completed correctly. It is not all or nothing for each of the problems. Points will be assigned based on the accuracy of work performed. Assignments received late will be awarded up to 20 points based on accuracy. All assignments account for 40% of the overall grade. I will provide assistance on the week's homework until Saturday evening.
5. Progress Exam: Course will include two (2) progress exams. The first exam (mid term) will be open book and the final exam will be a proctored closed book exam. The mid turn will be directly emailed to the student at the beginning of week 4 and is due at the end of week 4. Progress exams account for 45% of your overall grade (scoring breakdown: Mid Term (15%, 75 points) – Final Exam (30% - 150 points). To receive full credit for the open book progress exams, the exam must be received by due date. Late submittal of the mid term exam will result in a 20% scoring penalty. Assignment grade will be 80% of points earned for the assignment. Final exam can not be late. All questions within the mid-term and final exam will have equal weighting.
6. Email communication: Make sure that you identify yourself on all email and attachments. Always extend appropriate courtesy. We owe that to each other; additionally it makes the mail move quicker.
7. Turnaround time on email I am on line several times a day Monday through Friday. It is my goal to provide 24 hour or less response. If you ever send an email to me during the week that does not result in a response from me within 48 hours assume that technology has failed us and resend the email.
8. Course Examination and Proctor Form. The final examination occurs during week eight. I realize that this is the last requirement for completing the course but it should be accomplished as soon as the form is available online. Final exam must be taken to pass this course, per school policy.
9. Communication: We must have effective communication for this course to be of maximum benefit to you. Keep me informed and ask me for assistance. I am here to ensure that learning takes place and am willing to do whatever is possible to make that happen.
