The facilitator's educational philosophy is one of interactive learning based on lectures, outside readings, class discussions, videos and group and individual presentations. The facilitator will provide a safe and open learning environment where learners will explore various ideas, issues and observations.
Learners will examine the field of social psychology, its history, theories, research and goals. Learners will gain insight into self and social perceptions with the goal of improving interpersonal relations. They will explain the causes of prejudice and discrimination, and discuss measures to prevent them. Learners will explore how morality is developed and maintained. They will study cultural contexts of aggression, power, leadership, and forms of control, and the accompanying emotions. Learners will identify social influences and the approaches used by individuals in social exchange. They will discuss group dynamics as well as the physical and environmental varaibles that affect behavior.

There will be a mid-term and final examination. Each will be worth 20% of the final grade. Graded assignments will be worth 50 % of the final grade. Attendance and class participation will constitute 10% of the final grade.
All work must be turned in for a final grade to be assigned. Any work not turned in before the end of the grading cycle will be assigned a zero which will be averaged into the final grade. It is the student's responsibility to request make-up work.

Plagiarism involves the use of quotations without quotation marks, the use of quotations without indication of the source, the use of another's idea without acknowledging the source, the submission of a paper, laboratory report, project, or class assignment (any portion of such) prepared by another person, or incorrect paraphrasing. <a href="http://www.park.edu/catalog">

Instructors are required to maintain attendance records and
to report absences via the online attendance reporting system.
The instructor may excuse absences for valid reasons, but missed work must be made up within the semester/term of enrollment.</li><li>Work missed through unexcused absences must also be made up within the semester/term of enrollment,but unexcused absences may carry further penalties.</li><li>
In the event of two consecutive weeks of unexcused absences in a semester/term of enrollment, the student will be administratively withdrawn, resulting in a grade of Incomplete quot;WH".
A "Contract for Incomplete" will not be issued to a student who has unexcused or excessive absences recorded for a course.
Students receiving Military Tuition Assistance or Veterans Administration educational benefits must not exceed three unexcused absences in the semester/term of enrollment. Excessive absences will be reported to the appropriate agency and may result in a monetary penalty to the student.
Report of a "F" grade (attendance or academic) resulting from excessive absence for those students who are receiving financial assistance from agencies not mentioned in item 5 above will be reported to the appropriate agency.

If there is illness or other unavoidable reason for missing class, the student must contact the instructor by e-mail or voicemail before class time to receive an excused absence. If a student misses four class sessions, he/she will lose one letter grade; five - loss of two letter grades; six - loss of three letter grades; seven - failure of the course.

These guidelines are designed to supply directions to students concerning the information necessary to accomplish this goal.
