Course Description:
A continuation of the study of contracts, agency, employment, and  negotiable instruments; comparison of social responsibility and legal aspects  of selected issues. Prerequisite: MG260  3:0:3

Educational Philosophy:
One of interactiveness based on lectures, readings, dialogues, examinations, internet, videos, web sites and written case studies. The facilitator will engage each learner in legal issues in what is referred to as a Socratic method to encourage the lively exploration of ideas, issues and contradictions.

Learning Outcomes:
  Core Learning Outcomes

  1. Define the relationship between the American legal system and business.
  2. Explain the case law/hypothetical example format.
  3. Discuss legal issues within the relevant format.
  4. Arrive at rules of law and formulate those decisions in essay form.

Core Assessment:

There is a final exam consisting of 13 True or False questions, 25 Multiple Choice questions and four short answer essay questions.

Class Assessment:
Two case briefs. The case briefs are one page (single spaced) typewritten summary of a case of your choosing from the textbook, which will be presented in frontof the entire class.The mid-term exam will cover assigned chapters up to the  the date of the final exam.The final exam is not comprehensive. It will be only cover assigned chapters since the mid-term exam. The mid-term and the final exams wiLl consistof true/false, multiple choice,and/or short essay questions.Exams are closed book text, and notes are not permitted.There is no extra credit.


100 TOTAL POINTS POSSIBLE. Case Briefs(20%): 10 points each: 20 points; Class Discussion & Participation(10%): 10 points (attendance, preparation, and completion of in-class problem case assignments will be used to determine the class participation score-deductions will be taken at my discretion.); Mid-Term Exam(35%): 35 points; Final Exam(35%): 35 points.

90 - 100 points = A; 80 - 89 points = B; 70 - 79 points = C; 60 - 69 points = D; below 60 points or three or more unexcused absences = F.


Late Submission of Course Materials:
Late exams: you must contact me and arrange for a make-up if you miss the mid-term.  If you take an exam late due to an excused absence, there is no penalty and you can expect to take substantially the same exam. If you take the exam late due to an unexcused absence, be aware that the make-up may differ significantly. Please be advised if you miss the final, Park University has very specific requirements missing the final exams. You should review the university  catalog.

Classroom Rules of Conduct:
Faculty members are expected to dismiss from their classroom students whose behaviorsare detrimental to good order in the classroom. Such behaviors include, but is not limited to, use of abusive or obscene language, attending the class under the influence of drugs or alcohol,etc. Students who are dismissed from class may be given failing grades, suspension, or expulsion from Park University. Students, who exhibit abusive or obscene language toward administration personnel or support staff are also subject to suspension from Park University.

Academic Honesty:
Academic integrity is the foundation of the academic community. Plagiarism involves the use of quotations without quotation marks, the use of quotations without indication of the source, the use of another's idea without acknowledging the source, the submission of a paper, laboratory report, project, or class assignment (any portion of such) prepared by another person, or incorrect paraphrasing. Attendance Policy:
Instructors are required to maintain attendance records and to report absences via the online attendance reporting system.

  1. The instructor may excuse absences for valid reasons, but missed work must be made up within the semester/term of enrollment.
  2. Work missed through unexcused absences must also be made up within the semester/term of enrollment, but unexcused absences may carry further penalties.
  3. In the event of two consecutive weeks of unexcused absences in a semester/term of enrollment, the student will be administratively withdrawn, resulting in a grade of "W".
  4. A "Contract for Incomplete" will not be issued to a student who has unexcused or excessive absences recorded for a course.
  5. Students receiving Military Tuition Assistance or Veterans Administration educational benefits must not exceed three unexcused absences in the semester/term of enrollment. Excessive absences will be reported to the appropriate agency and may result in a monetary penalty to the student.
  6. Report of a "F" grade (attendance or academic) resulting from excessive absence for those students who are receiving financial assistance from agencies not mentioned in item 5 above will be reported to the appropriate agency.

7.   You are expected to come to class prepared and
    on time. Class participation is required. Attendance
    will be taken at the conclusion of each class.
