Course Grading Scale
The final course grade will be determined using the following measurements: Homework Assignments/Group projects, Mid Term Exam, Comprehensive Examination Instructor evaluation/class participation which is made up of the following factors: Posting your introduction to the conference during the first week of the course. Posting comments on the videos and other related activities in the discussion threads each week. Team work - which includes joining/forming a team during week 1 and submitting the week 2 thru 8 assignment with your team. Having a completed, correct proctor form submitted by the end of week 4. There is a link to the proctor form provided below. Attending class each week - meaning being active with your team. I ask each team leader to report if someone did not participate during a week because Park makes me report to it. Responding to my request for teammate evaluations during week 8. Other course related activities.
The following percentages will be used to assign course grades: 90% - 100% = A 80% - 89% = B 70% - 79% = C 60% - 69% = D Below 60% = F The work you do in this class is valued as follows: Homework = 200 pts. 51% of grade Mid Term Exam (4th week) = 50 pts. 13% of grade Comprehensive Examination (8th week) = 100 pts. 26% of grade. Instructor evaluation/class participation etc. = 40 pts. 10% of grade.
Total points = 390
The comprehensive final exam is not a take-home test and the comprehensive exam is a open book closed notes exam.
For all ONLINE courses, the student must pass the final with 60% or better.
All final exams will be comprehensive and will be closed book and closed notes. If calculators are allowed, they will not be multifunctional electronic devices that include features such as: phones, cameras, instant messaging, pagers, and so forth. Electronic Computers will not be allowed on final exams unless an exception is made by the Associate Dean.
The Proctored final exam for online courses must be passed with a grade of 60% or higher in order to pass the course regardless of the overall average. The grade for students who pass the proctored final will be based on the overall average of homework and tests taken during the course. The proctored final exam must address only material which the student has been taught in class.
Late assignments will only be accepted for week one homework. The latest that week one homework will be accepted is by the end of week 2. Late assignments will only be accepted for those of you who has not yet received your text by the start of class or by the end of week one.
Classroom Rules of Conduct:
All class members are required to be a part of a team for homework assignments. If you have not joined a team by the end of week one, you will be assigned to one by the instructor. Teamwork will not start until week 2, at that point the only individual assignment that will be accepted and graded are those from week one. Anyone submitting an individual assignment will receive a grade of zero for that assignment, for not following the rules as assigned. There will be no exception for this rule.
Academic Honesty:Academic integrity is the foundation of the academic community. Because each student has the primary responsibility for being academically honest, students are advised to read and understand all sections of this policy relating to standards of conduct and academic life. Plagiarism:Plagiarism involves the use of quotations without quotation marks, the use of quotations without indication of the source, the use of another's idea without acknowledging the source, the submission of a paper, laboratory report, project, or class assignment (any portion of such) prepared by another person, or incorrect paraphrasing. Course Ground Rules
As in the classroom, normally the first explanation most students would like is a detailed plan of what is going to happen. Allow me to provide a framework for the next eight weeks.
1. The classroom is open so you can down load the syllabus and the resource list. You might want to print them so you can use them as a planning document. Then proceed to the conference area and check in. Place an introduction of yourself (Course Home - introduction); feel free to share as much personal information as you feel comfortable with.
2. Discussion Assignment: You will have a weekly discussion assignment. Weekly assignments are due by midnight Sunday Eastern Standard Time. These assignments account for 15% of the overall grade. To receive any credit for the online assignment, the assignment must be received by due date. No exceptions.
3. Homework: Weekly homework assignments will include question derived from the text. If you have a question pertaining to any material in the text either email me or post your question within the weekly Q & A area. All I ask is that you provide the page number and topic and I'll do my best to answer your question. If you are having difficulty with a homework assignment give it your best hour (e.g. attempt) and then send it to me along with a brief statement of what you think the problem is. I will provide assistance. Homework can be sent as attachments in Word.
4. Grading Homework: Weekly assignments are due by midnight Sunday Eastern Standard Time, unless an extension is granted prior to the due date. Assignments that arrive on time will be awarded the allocated points based on accuracy. All assignments account for 40% of the overall grade. I will provide assistance on the week's homework until Friday evening. I will do my best in returning these to you by Thursday following the Sunday they are due.
5. Progress Exam: Course will include two (2) progress exams. The first exam (mid term) will be open book and the final exam will be a proctored open book exam. The mid term will be assessable through the Doc Sharing section to the student at the beginning of week 4 and is due at the end of week 4. Progress exams account for 45% of your overall grade (scoring breakdown: Mid Term (15%) – Final Exam (30%). Late submittal of the mid term exam will result in a 20% scoring penalty. Assignment grade will be 80% of points earned for the assignment. Final exam can not be late.
6. Email communication: Make sure that you identify yourself on all email and attachments. Always extend appropriate courtesy. We owe that to each other; additionally it makes the mail move quicker. In addition, since I also teach other courses, please put in the subject line the name of the course (mg365).
7. Turnaround time on email I am on line several times a day Monday through Friday. It is my goal to provide 24 hour or less response. If you ever send an email to me during the week that does not result in a response from me within 48 hours assume that technology has failed us and resend the email.
8. Course Examination and Proctor Form. The final examination occurs during week eight. I realize that this is the last requirement for completing the course but it should be accomplished as soon as the form is available online. Final exam must be taken to pass this course, per school policy.
9. Communication: We must have effective communication for this course to be of maximum benefit to you. Keep me informed and ask me for assistance. I am here to ensure that learning takes place and am willing to do whatever is possible to make that happen
