Educational Philosophy: The instructor has designed the course with his educational philosophy in mind. The course is based on lectures, readings, issues papers, dialogues, examinations, internet, videos and writings. The instructor will engage each learner in what is referred to as disputatious learning to encourage the lively exploration of historical ideas, issues, and contradictions.
Learning Outcomes: Core Learning Outcomes
Class Assessment: The course assessment will be based on the following: A midterm essay exam, a final essay exam, and 5 issue papers to be assigned on a weekly basis. The first issue papers that are assigned will require the students to present their point of view and the paper to the class.The mid term will be given on the fourth week and the final will be given during the final class period. I also expect class discussion and questions. My lectures are filled wtih questions to be answered by the class.
Grading: 100 points MidTerm Exam 250 points Final Exam. 100 points for the 5 issue papers (20 points each). 50 points presentation of the first issue paper (each student will present a paper and be graded on that presentation. Total 500 points.
Late Submission of Course Materials: I will accept late submission of course materials but at the cost of a 10% deduction below the scored grade. Now if the student receives prior approval from me this deduction will not be enforced.
Classroom Rules of Conduct: This is a university setting so I expect each student to act like a student attending and learning in a university setting. This means cell phones are turned off while in class and do not depend on computers, printers, or disks to work when needed so please plan ahead just in case.

Plagiarism:Plagiarism involves the use of quotations without quotation marks, the use of quotations without indication of the source, the use of another's idea without acknowledging the source, the submission of a paper, laboratory report, project, or class assignment (any portion of such) prepared by another person, or incorrect paraphrasing.
