Course Description:
The role of financial management through the development of a framework appropriate for financial decision making. Emphasis on obtaining and effectively utilizing the funds necessary for the operation of an enterprise. Elements of financial planning, capital budgeting, and consideration of alternative sources of funds. Pre-requisites: AC201 and AC202. 3:0:3

Educational Philosophy:
Is to motivate students to learn through interaction, exploration of ideas, executing financial management formula's and creative thinking/class discussions.  This will be accomplished utilizing lectures, presentations, text readings, class discussions, written reports, and examinations.

  1. Describe the financial goals of the firm.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the principles that form the foundation of financial management.
  3. Evaluate financial statements including critical financial ratios.
  4. Calculate interest, rate, present value, and term of financial instruments.
  5. Determine values for stocks and bonds.
  6. Perform capital budgeting using more than one method.

Core Assessment:

The final exam for FI 360 will be the assessment tool used for this course. The exam will be comprehensive and the grade used to determine competency levels achieved by the students. The exam will be closed book and closed notes. The exam consists of multiple choice questions covering the chapter readings in the course and problems that examine the critical thinking, effective communication skills and technical skills of the student. Partial credit will be given for the problems.

Class Assessment:
There will be two examinations and two article summaries (abstracts) presented to the class.  The abstracts will be considered separate from participation grade. The grade for the final exam must be 60% or higher in order for the student to pass the course.

The course grade for students will be based on the overall average of homework and tests taken during the course in accordance with the weighting of the various requirements as stated in the syllabus.

All final exams in all School of Business and Management courses will be comprehensive and will be closed book and closed notes. They will constitute 30% of the total course grade and will not be a take-home exam. They will be completed during the test week in the period designated by the registrar or by the Proctor in the case online courses. If calculators are allowed, they will not be multifunctional electronic devices that include features such as: phones, cameras, instant messaging, pagers, and so forth. Electronic Computers will not be allowed on final exams unless an exception is made by the Dean of the School of Business and Management.

Late Submission of Course Materials:
All assignments are due when scheduled.  If the assignment is late the student will lose 10% each day the assignment is late. Late assignment submission must be justifiable (in writing, doctor's excuse, etc.)and coordinated in advance; the instructor will approve/disapprove such requests for full credit or deduction in grade.  

Classroom Rules of Conduct:
Cell phones are allowed in class.  Students should exercise courtesy to the entire class by discreetly monitoring incoming calls.  Students may leave and return to class quietly as needed.  Students will respectfully obey the rules of Park University and Lackland AFB and sign that they have received such instructions.

Plagiarism involves the use of quotations without quotation marks, the use of quotations without indication of the source, the use of another's idea without acknowledging the source, the submission of a paper, laboratory report, project, or class assignment (any portion of such) prepared by another person, or incorrect paraphrasing. Attendance Policy:
Instructors are required to maintain attendance records and to report absences via the online attendance reporting system.

  1. The instructor may excuse absences for valid reasons, but missed work must be made up within the semester/term of enrollment.
  2. Work missed through unexcused absences must also be made up within the semester/term of enrollment, but unexcused absences may carry further penalties.
  3. In the event of two consecutive weeks of unexcused absences in a semester/term of enrollment, the student will be administratively withdrawn, resulting in a grade of "F".
  4. A "Contract for Incomplete" will not be issued to a student who has unexcused or excessive absences recorded for a course.
  5. Students receiving Military Tuition Assistance or Veterans Administration educational benefits must not exceed three unexcused absences in the semester/term of enrollment. Excessive absences will be reported to the appropriate agency and may result in a monetary penalty to the student.
  6. Report of a "F" grade (attendance or academic) resulting from excessive absence for those students who are receiving financial assistance from agencies not mentioned in item 5 above will be reported to the appropriate agency.
