Course Description:
The role of financial management through the development of a framework appropriate for financial decision making. Emphasis on obtaining and effectively utilizing the funds necessary for the operation of an enterprise. Elements of financial planning, capital budgeting, and consideration of alternative sources of funds. Prerequisites: AC201 and AC202 3:0:3

Educational Philosophy:
This course is part of Park's degree completion program, which id designed for adult's who have previous college / university credits and / or work experience.  Students are expected to read and follow all instructions as to how to format work, where to send it, and when it is to be completed, etc.  If any of the materials in the course or instructions about what to do are unclear, it is the student's responsibility to ask question.  THERE IS NO EXTRA CREDIT in this course.

Learning Outcomes:
  Core Learning Outcomes

  1. Describe the financial goals of the firm.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the principles that form the foundation of financial management.
  3. Evaluate financial statements including critical financial ratios.
  4. Calculate interest, rate, present value, and term of financial instruments.
  5. Determine values for stocks and bonds.
  6. Perform capital budgeting using more than one method.


Core Assessment:

The final exam for FI 360 will be the assessment tool used for this course. The exam will be comprehensive and the grade used to determine competency levels achieved by the students. The exam will be closed book and closed notes. The exam consists of multiple choice questions covering the chapter readings in the course and problems that examine the critical thinking, effective communication skills and technical skills of the student. Partial credit will be given for the problems.


Class Assessment:

The course grades will be determined using the following measurements:
 
300 points - 30% - Final Exam
200 points - 20% - Mid-Term Exam
100 points - 10% - Case Study 1
100 points - 10% - Case Study 2
100 points - 10% - Case Study 3
100 points - 10% - Case Study 4
100 points - 10% - Homework / Participation / Attendance

The course grade for students will be based on the overall average of homework and tests taken during the course in accordance with the weighting of the various requirements as stated in the syllabus.

All final exams in all School of Business and Management courses will be comprehensive and will be closed book and closed notes. They will constitute 30% of the total course grade and will not be a take-home exam. They will be completed during the test week in the period designated by the registrar or by the Proctor in the case online courses. If calculators are allowed, they will not be multifunctional electronic devices that include features such as: phones, cameras, instant messaging, pagers, and so forth. Electronic Computers will not be allowed on final exams unless an exception is made by the Dean of the School of Business and Management.

Late Submission of Course Materials:
Completion of all homework assignments, case studies, and mid-term exam are expected to be submitted on the published due date in the course unless prior arrangements have been with the instructor.  The final exam is expected to be completed and submitted on the published due date in class.

Classroom Rules of Conduct:
Please follow the campus rules for conduct in the classroom.  Cell phones and pagers should be either turned off or set to silent during class.

Plagiarism:
Plagiarism involves the use of quotations without quotation marks, the use of quotations without indication of the source, the use of another's idea without acknowledging the source, the submission of a paper, laboratory report, project, or class assignment (any portion of such) prepared by another person, or incorrect paraphrasing. Attendance Policy:
Instructors are required to maintain attendance records and to report absences via the online attendance reporting system.

  1. The instructor may excuse absences for valid reasons, but missed work must be made up within the semester/term of enrollment.
  2. Work missed through unexcused absences must also be made up within the semester/term of enrollment, but unexcused absences may carry further penalties.
  3. In the event of two consecutive weeks of unexcused absences in a semester/term of enrollment, the student will be administratively withdrawn, resulting in a grade of "F".
  4. A "Contract for Incomplete" will not be issued to a student who has unexcused or excessive absences recorded for a course.
  5. Students receiving Military Tuition Assistance or Veterans Administration educational benefits must not exceed three unexcused absences in the semester/term of enrollment. Excessive absences will be reported to the appropriate agency and may result in a monetary penalty to the student.
  6. Report of a "F" grade (attendance or academic) resulting from excessive absence for those students who are receiving financial assistance from agencies not mentioned in item 5 above will be reported to the appropriate agency.
