Dr Ruth’s personal teaching philosophy is that every student contact is part of a learning commitment to keep Park University as a "school of choice." The student population is increasingly diverse; in race, ethnic background, age, ability and interests. Adult learners are focused on their personal goals and want applications based learning.
Ultimately my teaching philosophy is to facilitate learning by reducing barriers, to help students succeed at the process of accomplishing the course objectives, and to continue their education at Park University with a positive learning experience.

Weekly Readings - Each week chapters from the text and a short instructor lecture will be assigned as required reading. The Lecture also contains links to additional handouts that are to be read that week
Discussion Questions - There will be 4 discussion questions in weeks 1- 8. Post your answers in the Discussion thread for that week on the course web site. Each question should be 2 fully developed paragraphs or more (100-150 words single spaced in your word processor). The answer may include information from the text or other sources and also should include personal experiences and opinion to demonstrate critical thinking and application. They are due on Thursday before midnight CT (Central Time). They are posted separately in individual threads for each question. After posting your answers, begin making 2 or more replies to other students' posts. 45 points per week (360 points total).

For a Student to Earn Full Points for Discussion Questions (DQs), S/He Should:
Answer all four (4) Discussion Questions posted by the instructor, (a) fully (length) with (b) clarity and (c) includes application or example, (d) cites and references any source(s) used. Each question will be graded on its own merits and it should meet all the requirements (full, clear, applied and sourced). The 4 initial posts have a value of 45 points each week.

Participation follows from the Weekly Homework Discussion Questions and it will involve students' answering or elaborating on other students' answers of the discussion questions using a "thread" in the conference area called Conference Participation. There each student will select initial posts made by other students and provide an answer that either adds information or promotes further class discussion based on that initial post in the thread. More than one reply is permitted for any already answered DQ.
For a Student to Earn Full Points for Weekly Participation, S/He Should:
Participate in a minimum of three (3) answers or responses from other students and provide a 'substantial' response to another student's answer or response. A 'substantial' response is a response/question that (a) is 3-4 lines in length; (b) if it is a question, it needs to be an open-ended question (requires further elaboration and not a yes or no or short type of answer); and (c) it promotes further class discussion.
Just responding to another student's answer or response saying that 'I liked your answer', or "I agree with you' type of responses/answers do not earn any points because they neither engage critical thinking, nor do they promote further class discussion.
A response can also be an opinion as long as the author can justify it using the economic concepts covered during the course. It can also be another question that extends the existing answered question. The 3 or more substantive comments have a value of 30 points each week.

Research paper. You need to select a topic of your interest to write your term paper. It needs to be 10 pages in body length (not counting the title, abstract and references pages), double-spaced, using Times New Roman 12 font. The paper is 25% of your final grade. Please make sure the paper has a title page, an abstract page and a references page with formatting in APA format. The paper needs to be delivered to the dropbox by the Thursday of the last week of the course (week 8). You need to select a topic and get instructor approval by midnight Sunday of the second week.
Prior paper topic approval is required by the instructor to assure that you have selected a topic where there will be enough information sources available for you to write and expand on your topic, therefore please email the instructor a request for approval of the topic of your choice by the end of the second week of the course.
For a Student to Earn Full Points for the Research Paper, S/He Should:
Develop a topic that has been approved by the instructor in a manner that demonstrates understanding of the topic as it relates to Project Management and Entrepreneurship. The final document should meet the minimum length of 10 double spaced pages of body in Times New Roman 12 (not to exceed 15) with title, abstract and reference pages. The paper is in APA format. The writing and content should be indicative of the ability to write, analyze and communicate concepts at the Master’s level. Project paper is submitted on time, Thursday in week 8 via the course Dropbox.

Non-proctored final exam that is accomplished during week 8. The exam is a short answer application exam where you will demonstrate your knowledge of Project Management in an Entrepreneurial Environment by applying concepts. Final grades will be based proportionately on (a) tests, (b) activities, and (c) business plans or research papers. Final grades may be affected directly by discussion thread participation.
Late Submission of Course Materials: Late work: late work loses 10% for each day late and has no value after a week. Please send late DQ’s to the instructor via email. Participation cannot be made up as the comments will not be read by your peers. Late research papers and finals are not accepted.

Plagiarism involves the appropriation of another person's ideas, interpretation, words (even a few), data, statements, illustration or creative work and their presentation as one's own. An offense against plagiarism constitutes a serious academic misconduct. Although offenses against academic integrity can manifest themselves in various ways, the most common forms of offenses are plagiarism and cheating. Plagiarism goes beyond the copying of an entire article. It may include, but is not limited to: copying a section of an article or a chapter from a book, reproduction of an art work, illustration, cartoon, photograph and the like and passing them off as one's own. Copying from the Internet is no less serious an offense than copying from a book or printed article, even when the material is not copyrighted.
Plagiarism also includes borrowing ideas and phrases from, or paraphrasing, someone else's work, published or unpublished, without acknowledging and documenting the source. Acknowledging and documenting the source of an idea or phrase, at the point where it is utilized, is necessary even when the idea or phrase is taken from a speech or conversation with another person.

Professors are required to maintain attendance records and report absences. Excused absences can be granted by the instructor, for medical reasons, school sponsored activities, and employment-related demands, including temporary duty. Students are responsible for any missed work. Absences for two successive weeks, without approved excuse, will be reported to the Director of the individual graduate program, or to the Executive Director for the Graduate School, for appropriate action. Students with such a record of absences, without an approved excuse, may be administratively withdrawn from the class and notified that an "F" will be recorded, unless the student initiates official withdrawal from the class(es).Park University 2008-2009 Graduate Catalog Page 29
