Educational Philosophy: My philosophy of teaching emphasizes student learning whether that learning occurs in a face to face format or in the online environment. One of my areas of expertise is psychology, and one of the main things that I learned from the study of psychology is that people have different learning styles. I have also learned as a result of study and experience, that adult learners differ in some important ways from traditional college students. I believe that students learn best when the material presented is timely and relevant and applicable. Adult students in particular like to see the relevance of what they are studying. One way that I like to do this is by including current events and cases for discussions. Discussions are the heart and soul of effective learning. This is the one way that students get to know one another and it gives them an opportunity to learn from one another. In addition, there is a great deal of information on the web that students can use to enhance their learning. They are encouraged to use web resources for this purpose.
Learning Outcomes: Core Learning Outcomes
The purpose of the literature review is for students to research a topic relevant to social psychology, formulate a research question, and conduct a literature review to address their target question. A literature review is not simply a report or an annotated bibliography; a literature review is a summary of the available information on a specific topic organized by common themes, trends or findings.

Late Submission of Course Materials:
It is unfair to other students to allow some individuals to submit assignments after the scheduled due date. The following is a list of valid reasons for submitting late work:
· A medical emergency or a serious acute illness. All medical emergencies and illnesses must be verified by a note on letterhead by an M.D., D.O., P.A., or R.N. I will not normally accept a note from other health professionals (e.g., Ph.D., MSW, D.C., Physical Therapist) because their professional functions rarely involve medical emergencies or acute illnesses. I will acccept late work for students who can provide evidence of a verified medical emergency (but not acute illness) involving a child, spouse, parent, sibling, or grandparent.
· An Accident or Police Emergency. I will require an accident report or note on letterhead from an appropriate law enforcement officer to accept late work due to accidents or police emergencies (e.g., assault on student, student taken hostage, detained witness of a crime).
· Unforeseen Jury or Witness Duty. I will require a note on letterhead from a judge or attorney to accept late work due to jury or witness duty.
· Unforeseen Military Deployment or Activation. I will require a note on official letterhead from your commanding officer.
· Funerals for Immediate Family Member (e.g., parents, siblings, grandparents, etc.). A note from the funeral director or an obituary will be required.
Classroom Rules of Conduct: expect that the interactions and communications in this class will be civil and professional. Derogatory language, profanity, and personal attacks are unacceptable. To facilitate uniformity, I expect that papers will have 1 inch margins, double-spaced, using Times-Roman 12pt or Arial 10pt as the font. Submission of papers written for other classes is not acceptable. I expect that each paper you submit in this class is a unique paper created by you. Violation of this will result in a failing grade for the assignment.
Please recognize that technology can also cause problems. Printers run out of ink, Internet connections die, and hard drives crash. You are responsible for planning ahead and meeting deadlines in spite of technology. Be sure to save copies of your submissions and your work to a disk, a hard drive, and print out paper copies for backup purposes.
The Ecompanion classroom is for public messages. Students should use e-mail for private messages to the instructor and other students. All e-mails sent to the instructor and other students should include: PS402 and your full name in the subject line of the e-mail. Students are required to use Pirate Mail for online classes. All information concerning the class will be sent through Pirate Mail. Students should have a current anti-virus software and should update their software weekly as a protection to themselves as well as others who are participating in this class. This is everyone's responsibility.
This course is reading intensive, so please keep up! All students will participate in the class discussions and it is much easier to do if you have all the readings done prior to class.

Plagiarism:Plagiarism involves the use of quotations without quotation marks, the use of quotations without indication of the source, the use of another's idea without acknowledging the source, the submission of a paper, laboratory report, project, or class assignment (any portion of such) prepared by another person, or incorrect paraphrasing. Attendance Policy:Instructors are required to maintain attendance records and to report absences via the online attendance reporting system.
