Consideration is given to strategies, ethics, the interview as a management tool, and a broad understanding of the communication variables involved in the interviewing context. --Participation points will be earned by taking an active role in classroom discussions, sharing relevant experiences, asking questions of your instructor and of your peers, taking part in mock interview situations in class, etc.
Homework assignments 100 points
--In addition to the required readings, two homework assignments will be assigned throughout the course of the term - each will be worth fifty points. The first assignment will be to write a resume for yourself that you could use in a job interview. This should be done in a neat, professional manner and thoroughly highlight your work history, educational background, etc. The second assignment will be for each student to watch an interview being conducted in the media - Fox Cable News, C-Span, CNN News, 60 Minutes, etc. You will need to submit a paper of at least two pages in length that gives a brief summary of the interview, what you believe to be the goals of the interview, what worked well in the interview and what could have been done better, i.e. an analysis/ critique of the interview. Each homework assignment will be worth 50 points and will be graded on thoroughness, neatness, grammatical correctness, creative thought, etc.
Mock Employment Interview 100 points
--I will divide the class up into teams of two people. Each team will randomly be given a brief synopsis of a job classification. Each team will be required to present an actual job interview for that particular position - one of the team members acting as interviewer and the other as interviewee. The interview will be presented to the entire class; due to time constraints please keep your presentation to no more than 15 minutes. The team will be graded on the actual presentation and a paper submitted that gives a brief overview of the interview and a list of the interview questions and answers. The presentation and the paper submitted will each be worth 50 points.

Instructor Learning Outcomes
*The final interview project will be a case study that consists of a comprehensive paper as well as a formal mock interview that will be conducted in class. Fifty percent of the project grade will be based on a formal written paper. The other half of the grade will be based on the in-class presentation, including the actual interview.
The paper should include the following components:
-an overview of the organization conducting the interview
-a list of the individuals involved, including a brief overview of their responsibilities within the organization
-a job description or similar document detailing the specific goals/expected outcomes
-any other ancillary goals, expectations or concerns specific to the interview that should be considered within the context of the specific interview
-a list of questions that will be used in the interview
For the in-class presentation, an overview of the project will be presented and the interview will be conducted in class by the members of the group.
Grading: The following grading scale will be used:
900 – 1000 points = A
800 – 899 points = B
700 – 799 points = C
Late Submission of Course Materials:
No assignment will be accepted late without a valid excuse. Late papers or assignments automatically lose 1/10 of the total point value. If you fail to take the final exam when scheduled or fail to present your final project when assigned, you will receive zero points for that portion of your overall grade. Assignments for extra credit will generally not be assigned nor accepted. If you miss the mid-term exam you will need to make arrangements with the instructor to “make-up” the test. A penalty of one grade level will be assessed.
