This course introduces the student to management information concepts. The course will present a variety of data processing facilities. Course topics include: transaction reporting, information reporting, decision support systems, system development life cycle, office automation, and job description and requirements. Suggested prerequisite: CS 140 3:0:3.

Upon completion of this class you will understand the system development life cycle and its system approach and relationship to the development of information systems and supporting the end-user in the work environment.
Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:
•Identify the skills that a manager of Information Systems
requires to successfully lead a team in development of
maintenance of an Information System.

The course work consists of mid-term exam, final exam, a collaborative project, writing exercises, and class participation. In order to be successful in this class, each of these assigned areas will need to be completed on time and satisfactorily. The instructor will assign the class participation percentage based on the student’s timely submission of assignments, class attendance, and contribution to the class.

CLASS MEETING AND EXAMINATION SCHEDULE:
The class meets from 1930 - 2200 on Mondays and Wednesdays. The class is organized into 8 weeks. Timely submission of assignments can not be emphasized enough. You will be assessed via a midterm, final exam, collaborative project, and various writing assignments.
Class participation and completion of all assigned work is expected and worth 10% of your final grade. The student is expected to come to all classes unless coordinated with the instructor prior to the class meeting. If the student is unable to contact the instructor prior to the class then a message should be left with the school office justifying the absence. Late assignments and unexcused absences will affect the class participation and homework/lab grade. Two unexcused absences are considered excessive and three unexcused absences will result in an Involuntary Withdrawal and a grade of “F” (attendance) for the course.
Instructors are required to keep attendance records and report absences. The instructor may excuse absences for cogent reasons, but missed work must be made up within the term of enrollment. Work missed through unexcused absences must also be made up within the term of enrollment, but unexcused absences may carry further penalties. In the event of two consecutive weeks of unexcused absences in a term of enrollment, the student will be administratively withdrawn, resulting in the grade of “F”. An Incomplete will not be issued to a student who has unexcused or excessive absences recorded for a course. Students receiving Military Tuition Assistance (TA) or Veterans Administration (VA) educational benefits must not exceed three unexcused absences in the term of enrollment. Excessive absences will be reported to the appropriate agency and may result in a monetary penalty to the student. Reports of “F” grade (attendance or academic) resulting from excessive absence for students receiving financial assistance from agencies not mentioned above will be reported to the appropriate agency.
Submitting someone else’s work as your own will not be tolerated. If determined by the instructor that academic dishonesty had occurred in any part of the course, the student(s) involved will be given an immediate grade of “F” and dropped from the course. The second violation results in the automatic expulsion from the school. The Assistant Vice President will be notified in writing of the action taken.
Plagiarism—the appropriation or imitation of the language or ideas of another person and presenting them as one’s original work—sometimes occurs through carelessness or ignorance. Students who are uncertain about proper documentation of sources should consult their instructors.”
