Introduction to Management- Basic functions of management with emphasis on the behavioral problems management faces in adopting and implementing policy.
FACULTY’S EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY:
This course will consist of lectures, discussion, presentations, and examinations. Students are encouraged to interact sharing their own ideas and experiences.
The student will be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of management through classroom interactions. They will also incorporate their ideas and enhance their management skills by applying concepts to real-life situations.

“Academic Honesty is required of all members of a learning community. Hence, Park will not tolerate cheating or plagiarism on tests, examinations, papers or other course assignments. Students who engage in such dishonesty may be given failing grades or expelled from Park.”
Plagiarism—the appropriation or imitation of the language or ideas of another person and presenting them as one’s original work—sometimes occurs through carelessness or ignorance. Students who are uncertain about proper documentation of sources should consult their instructors.”
Instructors are required to keep attendance records and report absences. The instructor may excuse absences for cogent reasons, but missed work must be made up within the term of enrollment. Work missed through unexcused absences must also be made up within the term of enrollment, but unexcused absences may carry further penalties. In the event of two consecutive weeks of unexcused absences in a term of enrollment, the student will be administratively withdrawn, resulting in a grade of “F”. An Incomplete will not be issued to a student who has unexcused or excessive absences recorded for a course. Students receiving Military Tuition Assistance (TA) or Veterans Administration (VA) educational benefits must not exceed three unexcused absences in the term of enrollment. Excessive absences will be reported to the appropriate agency and may result in a monetary penalty to the student. Reports of F grade (attendance or academic) resulting from excessive absence for students receiving financial assistance from agencies not mentioned above will be reported to the appropriate agency.
LATE SUBMISSION OF COURSE MATERIALS:
Course assignments submitted after the specified due date will not be accepted unless due to an excused absence and coordinated with and approved by the instructor.
Each student will be expected to read the assigned material prior to class meetings and to take a mid-term and final examination. Beginning the week of 20 June each student will be required to give a 5-7 minute presentation on a topic to be determined the week prior. Additionally, each student will be required to prepare a 4-5 page, typed, double spaced case analysis which will be due NLT 28 July 2005. The student’s goal for the case analysis is to show a real world example of how management impacted an organization and what could be done to change or improve the situation.
CLASSROOM RULES OF CONDUCT:
Class participation is expected and will form a part of the final grade. Students are expected to come to all classes. However, legitimate excuses will be accepted. Students are expected to make up all missed work. Two consecutive weeks of unexcused absences are defined as excessive and will result in an administrative withdrawal and a grade of “F” (attendance) for the course. For any absence (excused or unexcused), student will be required to submit a typed and double spaced paper outlining the chapter(s) missed. The five page paper is due the first class session following the absence.
