Learning Outcomes: Core Learning Outcomes
For CJ200, all students will complete an essay, 6-8 pages (1,500 to 2,000 words) in length (excluding the cover sheet and bibliography pages) which compares and contrasts two of the theories of crime and criminal activity discussed in the course. You are free to select the theories you wish to examine. It is also acceptable to compare or contrast theories from different disciplines. In other words, you may choose to compare one of the sociological theories with a similar perspective in the psychological theories. Your essay should consider the historical foundations of the study of criminal behavior; and examine ways in which society responds to criminal behavior in terms of prevention and punishment. The paper should be written in APA format and have at least four sources, three of which should be sources not covered in the course. The essay should contain a title page, an outline, and a bibliography.

Discussion - The discussion questions will come from the assigned readings.
Homework - The homework will come from the assigned readings.
Court Case Briefs - write a very brief summary of a court case of your choice on or related to a topic covered during the week. Simply list who was involved, what happened, when did it happen, where did it happen, the outcome (court decision) and the source of your information (website address, newspaper or magazine title and page #, etc.)
Late Work - If your work is late, submit it anyway to receive partial credit. Please contact me ahead of time if you know your work is going to be late.
Proctored Final Exam - A final proctored examination will be taken in a proctored testing environment during the 8th week at one of the Park University sites around the country or at an alternative location. For proctored examinations, photo identification is required at the time of the test. Guidelines for selecting an acceptable proctor can be found on the Park University Website.
Other Information on proctored exams: It will be the responsibility of the student to arrange for a proctor, by the 6th week of the term, who is accepted and approved by the course instructor. Approval of proctors is the discretion of the Online instructor. A proctor request form will be made available to you during the first week of class so that you can send your requested proctor to your instructor for approval. Failure to take a final proctored exam (or submit your final project for some online graduate courses) will result in an automatic "F" grade.

Discussion - approximately 10% of final grade
Homework - approximately 5% of final grade
Court-Case Briefs - approximately 10% of final grade
Proctored Final Exam - 25% of final grade

Plagiarism:Plagiarism involves the use of quotations without quotation marks, the use of quotations without indication of the source, the use of another's idea without acknowledging the source, the submission of a paper, laboratory report, project, or class assignment (any portion of such) prepared by another person, or incorrect paraphrasing.
