Course Description:
CJ312 Criminalistics: This intermediate course covers topics such as the discovery, recognition, observation,identification and collection and comparison of physical evidence, including a review of various current techniques in testing of physical evidence. Prerequisite: CJ100 and CJ105. 3:0:3

Educational Philosophy:
This instructor's educational philosophy is one of interaction with and education of students based on lectures, reading, dialogues, exams, internet use for supplemental information, videos, and CD ROM presentations.

The Grading Policy for this class is as follows:  
Five Weekly Quizzes--50% of total grade
Project and Presentation to include 5 page paper focused on assessing the student's understanding of and participation in the course of study--10%
Final Examination--30% of final grade
Class Participation-- 10% of final grade
90--100=A, 80--89=B, 70--79=C, 60--69=D, Below 59=F

Late Submission of Course Materials:
You are expected to submit your class assignments on the date that it is due. If your course material is submitted late, your final grade on that assignment will be reduce by 10 points for each class period that it is late.

Classroom Rules of Conduct:
You are expected to behave in a professional manner. You must refrain from inappropriate behavior that will interrupt the learning environment. You are expected to debate issues in a manner which will faciliate learning. This will exclude loud, boisterous, disrespectful, or profane communication. Be respectful to your classmates at all times. Only one person will address the professor at a time. You are expected to be in class at the scheduled time. If you must arrive or depart late, please sit where your departure/arrival will not disrupt the class.

Plagiarism involves the use of quotations without quotation marks, the use of quotations without indication of the source, the use of another's idea without acknowledging the source, the submission of a paper, laboratory report, project, or class assignment (any portion of such) prepared by another person, or incorrect paraphrasing. from Park University 2011-2012 Undergraduate Catalog Page 93

Attendance Policy:
Instructors are required to maintain attendance records and to report absences via the online attendance reporting system.

  1. The instructor may excuse absences for valid reasons, but missed work must be made up within the semester/term of enrollment.
  2. Work missed through unexcused absences must also be made up within the semester/term of enrollment, but unexcused absences may carry further penalties.
  3. In the event of two consecutive weeks of unexcused absences in a semester/term of enrollment, the student will be administratively withdrawn, resulting in a grade of "F".
  4. A "Contract for Incomplete" will not be issued to a student who has unexcused or excessive absences recorded for a course.
  5. Students receiving Military Tuition Assistance or Veterans Administration educational benefits must not exceed three unexcused absences in the semester/term of enrollment. Excessive absences will be reported to the appropriate agency and may result in a monetary penalty to the student.
  6. Report of a "F" grade (attendance or academic) resulting from excessive absence for those students who are receiving financial assistance from agencies not mentioned in item 5 above will be reported to the appropriate agency.
