Educational Philosophy: Students will be involved in active learning consisting of research, writing, oral presentations and a final comprehensive exam to aid in the exploration of ideas, issues and contradictions of the health care policy environment in which we work today. Together we will explore how policy making impacts our decisions, strategic planning and operational success. My role is to challenge your thoughts, skills and abilities.
Learning Outcomes: Core Learning Outcomes
Class Assessment: Each student is responsible for the materials covered in class and by reading the assigned chapters, current events, or article searches and reviews and participation in class. The group presentations will require you to work in a group, select the topic based on instructor's approval and apply your understanding of appropriate health care policies. There will be quizzes,; short answer, multiple choice/matching and a final exam to test your understanding of the material covered in class. The article reviews or current events consist of your researching current topics related to the material we are covering in class, bring the article and present a synopsis of that article and how it relates to our class topics. The paper will be any Health care policy topic; and examples will be discussed the first night of class.
Grading: Quizzes: 20%= 200 points
Final Exam: 25% = 250 points
Current Events: 15% = 150 points
Group Presentation: 20% = 200 points
Paper: 20% = 200 points
Total Points: 100% = 1000 points
90-100% = A
80-90% = B
70-79% = C
60-69% = D
Below 60% = F
The course grade for students will be based on the overall average of homework and tests taken during the course in accordance with the weighting of the various requirements as stated in the syllabus.
All final exams in all School of Business courses will be comprehensive and will be closed book and closed notes. They will constitute 30% of the total course grade and will not be a take-home exam. They will be completed during the test week in the period designated by the registrar or by the Proctor in the case online courses. If calculators are allowed, they will not be multifunctional electronic devices that include features such as: phones, cameras, instant messaging, pagers, and so forth. Electronic Computers will not be allowed on final exams unless an exception is made by the Dean of the School of Business.
Classroom Rules of Conduct: Attendance will be taken at the beginning and end of each class. Instructor is not responsible for contacting students or providing items from missed classes.
