Welcome to Introduction to Human Resources on line! Along with your fellow on-line students, you will be a partner in pioneering higher education. Through "electronic teams," you will work with students many miles apart to complete a group assignment and discuss weekly human resource issues. I will serve as your facilitator and will encourage you to take responsibility for your learning processes.
The four basic goals of this course are to provide you with: A broad introduction to human resource concepts; an in-depth understanding of the role of human resources in society and the firm; an overview of the various factors that influence human resource decision making; and the development of a strong insight about decisions related to employee and employer rights, laws affecting human resources, human resource management systems, and current case studies that will cover many human resource issues. These goals can only be achieved through a joint "on-line" effort. I will work to stimulate your interest and learning. However, you will be expected to display initiative and a program of self study as well. As a result, another objective of the course is to provide you with an environment that will reward your own intellectual effort.
Each week, we will focus on human resource issues, problems, etc., encountered by the human resource professional through our on-line discussions; these issues are reinforced and expanded in readings and case studies in our text.

Weekly Case Studies- students will use case studies at the end of the chapters and answer the questions and post in the online course, assignment should be at least 200 words, These will be completed in weeks 2-7 (6 each). Week 2 will consist of a group project case study - this will be the only group assignment during the course. Grading Rubric is located in the Document Sharing Tab on top of the course homepage for additional grading criteria.
Literature Review - completed during week 4, typed and dropped into drop box assignment. Review will cover the research paper the students will submit in week 7. Review will consist of at least 3 sources and at least a paragraph for each source. Grading Rubric is located in the Document Sharing Tab on top of the course homepage for additional grading criteria.
Online Weekly Discussions - weeks 1 - 8, students will choose two questions to answer (must be 200 words) to post in the discussion thread and reply to at least two fellow students (100 words), and also use at least two different sources listed in proper APA format. Discussion threads are required each week. Grading Rubric is located in the Document Sharing Tab on top of the course homepage for additional grading criteria.
Quizzes - 6 each, taken online weeks 2-7. Quizzes are online and not proctored.
HRM quiz and introduction in week 1 - students will introduce themselves in the online class and take a short intro HR quiz.
Term paper - completed during week 7, 5-7 pages, double spaced, APA format, at least 3 online sources, cover sheet and citation page extra. Topic must be approved by the instructor no later than week two. Grading Rubric is located in the Document Sharing Tab on top of the course homepage for additional grading criteria.
Final Exam - completed during week 8, closed book, closed notes, MC, TF and short answer essay format. Final exam must be proctored.

The course grade for students will be based on the overall average of homework and tests taken during the course in accordance with the weighting of the various requirements as stated in the syllabus.
All final exams in all School of Business courses will be comprehensive and will be closed book and closed notes. They will constitute 30% of the total course grade and will not be a take-home exam. They will be completed during the test week in the period designated by the registrar or by the Proctor in the case online courses. If calculators are allowed, they will not be multifunctional electronic devices that include features such as: phones, cameras, instant messaging, pagers, and so forth. Electronic Computers will not be allowed on final exams unless an exception is made by the Dean of the School of Business.
Classroom Rules of Conduct: Be courteous and complete assignments on designated due dates to allow for interactions with the entire class.
