Course Description:
CS366 Computer Networking Laboratory Prerequisite or co-requisite: CS365 or instructor consent. This course provides students opportunities to practice computer networking concepts through hands-on networking projects. Students will experiment with and evaluate various networking utilities. Course projects will reinforce the concepts learned in CS365. Cisco recommends four areas of study in preparing for the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)exam. Together, this course and CS365 include the first area of study.1:0:1 íÀ@

Educational Philosophy:

Students will be guided through Netlab exercises or equivalent hands-on scenarios.

Learning Outcomes:
  Core Learning Outcomes

  1. Analyze the network layering models.
  2. Examine various networking protocols and standards.
  3. Compare various networking media and topologies.
  4. Experiment with various networking utilities to determine the appropriate network support.


Core Assessment:
Description of the Core Assessment Instrument (such as Final Exam, term paper, project, etc):   This assessment is designed to assess primarily Core Learning Outcomes (CLOs) #1 to #4. The Park University proctored final exam is the core assessment tool.  The entire final exam makes up 20% to 25% of the course grade.    There are a total of 50 questions in the final exam in which 12 of them are used to assess Core Learning Outcomes (CLOs) #1 to #4. That is, there are 3 questions designated for each CLO.

Late Submission of Course Materials:
There will be no late submissions. Labs should be completed during class hours.

INCOMPLETE GRADE:  Given that all classes and labs are to be taken within 2 days, incomplete grades will not be given. 
WITHDRAW:  The enrollment status of the student in this course is solely the responsibility of the student. If a student wishes to withdraw from this course, s/he must file the appropriate paperwork with the registrar before the appropriate deadlines. Every student is considered enrolled unless s/he is officially withdrawn.

Other Rules
1. This is a 1-credit-course, comprising 8 sessions of 50 minutes each, and it is the lab component of CS365. The course will be compressed into a 2-day format of 4 sessions (labs) each day. These two days are planned for the weekend of Week 7. Labs will be given on-site. Final Exam will be taken during Week 8 if required by the student.

2. Students should disconnect or set to silent any cellular phones or beeping devices during class sessions.

3. Students should refrain from disruptive behavior during class sessions.

Attendance Policy:
Instructors are required to maintain attendance records and to report absences via the online attendance reporting system.

  1. The instructor may excuse absences for valid reasons, but missed work must be made up within the semester/term of enrollment.
  2. Work missed through unexcused absences must also be made up within the semester/term of enrollment, but unexcused absences may carry further penalties.
  3. In the event of two consecutive weeks of unexcused absences in a semester/term of enrollment, the student will be administratively withdrawn, resulting in a grade of "F".
  4. A "Contract for Incomplete" will not be issued to a student who has unexcused or excessive absences recorded for a course.
  5. Students receiving Military Tuition Assistance or Veterans Administration educational benefits must not exceed three unexcused absences in the semester/term of enrollment. Excessive absences will be reported to the appropriate agency and may result in a monetary penalty to the student.
  6. Report of a "F" grade (attendance or academic) resulting from excessive absence for those students who are receiving financial assistance from agencies not mentioned in item 5 above will be reported to the appropriate agency.
