Note that it is required that you have access to a computer locally so that you can download, install, and execute Cisco Packet Tracer software.

Course Description:
CS365 Computer Networking: This course provides an overview of computer networking concepts. Course topics include (but are not limited to): network topologies and cabling, local and wide area networking, Ethernet, wireless, OSI 7-layer model, routing,logical and physical network addressing. This course may include various hands-on networking projects. Cisco recommends four areas of study in preparing for the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) exam. This course covers the first area of study. Prerequisites: CS208 and CS151 or permission of Instructor. 3:0:3

  2. Examine various networking protocols and standards.
  3. Compare various networking media and topologies.
  4. Experiment with various networking utilities to determine the appropriate network support.

Core Assessment:
Description of the Core Assessment Instrument (such as Final Exam, term paper, project, etc):    This assessment is designed to assess primarily Core Learning Outcomes (CLOs) #1 to #4. The Park University proctored final exam is the core assessment tool.  The entire final exam makes up 20% to 25% of the course grade.    There are a total of 50 questions in the final exam in which 12 of them are used to assess Core Learning Outcomes (CLOs) #1 to #4. That is, there are 3 questions designated for each CLO.

Assignment Submission Policies: Weekly discussion, lab project, and exam assignment policies will be detailed week by week. All requirements must be met in order to get the maximum score. Failure to meet any of the requirements will yield a deduction in points that will be determined by your instructor.

Late Submission of Course Materials:

Assignment due dates will be provided when it is assigned. For each day that an assignment is late, there will be a deduction of 20% per day of the student's score for that assignment. Assignments that are more than 5 days late yield a 0 for the entire assignment.

Attendance Policy:
Instructors are required to maintain attendance records and to report absences via the online attendance reporting system.

  1. The instructor may excuse absences for valid reasons, but missed work must be made up within the semester/term of enrollment.
  2. Work missed through unexcused absences must also be made up within the semester/term of enrollment, but unexcused absences may carry further penalties.
  3. In the event of two consecutive weeks of unexcused absences in a semester/term of enrollment, the student will be administratively withdrawn, resulting in a grade of "F".
  4. A "Contract for Incomplete" will not be issued to a student who has unexcused or excessive absences recorded for a course.
  5. Students receiving Military Tuition Assistance or Veterans Administration educational benefits must not exceed three unexcused absences in the semester/term of enrollment. Excessive absences will be reported to the appropriate agency and may result in a monetary penalty to the student.
  6. Report of a "F" grade (attendance or academic) resulting from excessive absence for those students who are receiving financial assistance from agencies not mentioned in item 5 above will be reported to the appropriate agency.
ONLINE NOTE: Students must participate in an academically related activity on a weekly basis in order to be marked present in an online class. Examples of academically-related activities include but are not limited to: contributing to an online discussion, completing a quiz or exam, completing an assignment, initiating contact with a faculty member to ask a course related question, or using any of the learning management system tools.
